Pennsylvania No. 5 Best State to Visit This Fall
With its fall foliage, fall festivals, forest trails and more, Pennsylvania ranked No. 5 on LawnStarter’s list of 2023 Best States to Visit This Fall.
LawnStarter used several metrics to determine the best states to visit this season. They grouped variously weighted factors into four categories: fall scenery, outdoor recreation, entertainment and safety.
Fall scenery sets the mood for a perfect autumnal outing. This category took into account each state’s projected number of weeks with fall foliage, projected number of days of peak fall foliage and number of scenic drives. Pennsylvania ranked second for projected days of peak foliage.
With temperatures cooling down, outdoor recreation is a great way to get some fresh air and enjoy that fall scenery. This category counted national parks, state parks, forest land, forest trails, hiking trails and camping-friendliness. Pennsylvania ranked fifth for the number of forest trails.
The fall entertainment category took into account some popular fall favorites, including outdoor activities, fall festivals, apple orchards, corn mazes, pumpkin patches, wineries, cideries and hayrides. For those who enjoy uniquely autumnal entertainment, Pennsylvania has the most fall festivals out of any state! Data showed 46 fall festivals were planned in the state this year.
Lastly, safety is always important. This category measured wildfire and hurricane risk. Good news, Pennsylvania ranked No. 9 for lowest wildfire risk.
If you want to explore more of what Pennsylvania has to offer, now is the perfect time to take a scenic drive through the Keystone State to visit a fall festival or two (or 46!).
