When they need a break from work, most potential homebuyers aren’t looking at Facebook.
They’re searching for a home. According to a recent Redfin report, the most popular time to search for a new home online is Friday morning at 10 a.m. They found that close to 64 percent more people are searching for a home on their website at that time.
In fact, the majority of people browsing homes for sale online are doing it during the workweek, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, especially in the morning. Following Friday at 10 a.m., Monday at 11 a.m. is the next highest browsing period. Sixty-one percent more people than average are beating the mid-morning slump on Mondays by searching for a new home.
Not surprisingly then, post-work, most potential homebuyers are not looking for a home at that time. Close to 8 percent fewer people than usual are browsing the site on Wednesday evenings at 9 p.m.
Even on weekends, most home browsers aren’t spending that much time searching. The report found that the number of visitors to the site from 6 p.m. on Friday to 7 a.m. on Monday is “significantly” lower than weekday mid-mornings. Over the weekend, the most popular time to browse is Saturday at 10 a.m., traffic then is 22.4 higher than the norm.
Why do so many people use the workday to look for a home? “One possible explanation is the popularity of weekends for hitting the pavement and touring homes in person rather than through a computer or smartphone screen. Another reason could be the rise in real estate technology tools,” the report stated.
