The Centre County Association of Realtors® is using a PAR Century of Service grant to help provide hot meals for children, seniors and veterans through the YMCA of Centre County’s Anti-Hunger Program.
The Anti-Hunger Program, in its 16th year, distributes meals at 31 sites in seven school districts throughout Centre and Clearfield counties. Centre County Realtors® are making a $1,000 donation to purchase food for these efforts with the PAR grant, along with matching funds from the local association. PAR’s Century of Service grants allow local Realtor® organizations to help make a difference in their communities during the state association’s 100th anniversary.
“We know that many families are facing tremendous challenges over the past several months and the Centre County Association of Realtors® is proud to be able to offer its support to the YMCA,” said Dawnyelle Holsinger, president of CCAR. “The YMCA is doing a fantastic job of feeding 2,000 lunches and snacks daily to families in need, as well as providing additional food to support 1,500 families through the weekend.”
The association’s board of directors distributed the food to the YMCA to provide nutritious meals throughout the summer.
The YMCA is working with CenClear Child Services to create the Travelin’ Table, a mobile feeding bus that helps children in the community who don’t have access to nutritional meals and depend on free and reduced lunch programs at school. The bus will travel to areas in the community where children and families may not have easy access to meals otherwise.
In addition, the YMCA’s Anti-Hunger Program has partnered with the Bald Eagle Valley Community United Methodist Church in providing a drive-through soup distribution service for senior citizens and veterans.
