AANHPI Heritage Month: Benjamin Wong Helps Achieve Dreams
As Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month comes to a close, PAR recognizes one more Realtor® in the AANHPI community and shares his journey in real estate.
Benjamin Wong, a member of Tri-County Suburban Realtors®, has been a Realtor® and a homeowner for 11 years. It was the process of buying a home that inspired him to pursue a career in real estate.
“It all started 11 years ago,” Wong recalls. “My girlfriend at the time, who’s now my wife, and I were looking for our first home. We went through the buying process, which didn’t feel like it was explained to us thoroughly. I think the agent who we worked with was a new agent.”
“Unfortunately, we lost a house that we really liked,” he continues. “But eventually, we did find a house. After going through the process, I felt that I could do a better job. So, I got my real estate license a few months afterwards.”
Wong shares how the value of his house helped him realize the value of homeownership.
“This is the American Dream where people have the option to own a piece of land and call it their own. I enjoy helping people achieve this and providing as much knowledge as I can for them,” says Benjamin Wong, Tri-County Suburban Realtor®.
“It’s crazy that my house has doubled in value,” he says. “It really makes me think that this is the best way to build wealth, and generational wealth as well. This is the American Dream where people have the option to own a piece of land and call it their own. I enjoy helping people achieve this and providing as much knowledge as I can for them.”
“I like the process and the end result,” he adds. “They are so happy when they either buy the house or offload the house.”
For many, homeownership is part of the American Dream. Wong helps them achieve this, but real estate has provided him the opportunity to help his family as well.
“I feel accomplished every time I help a buyer or seller achieve their dreams,” he shares. “But the biggest accomplishment in my working career was working for my parents. We had a struggling business, and we were able to grow it into a big business. We were able to sell the business and use that money to buy real estate so they have the ability to retire and receive passive income.”
As a Realtor®, Wong helps clients achieve the dream of homeownership by providing the knowledge he wished he had as a first-time buyer 11 years ago.
“I’ve seen people get taken advantage of who didn’t really know the process,” he says. “I like to tell clients what the common practice is and give everyone I represent a fair shot, or even a better shot, at getting what they are looking for.”
“I really do enjoy being a Realtor®,” he concludes. “It definitely brings me joy to help buyers and sellers.”
