Homeowners across the 50 largest U.S. metros spend an average of 7% of their monthly homeownership costs on property insurance, according to ValuePenguin.
On average, their homeownership costs total $2,077.58 per month, and an average of $145.66 goes toward property insurance.
In metros like Miami, Oklahoma City, Tampa, Orlando and Houston, these numbers are even higher, with homeowners seeing 10% or more of their monthly homeownership costs funnel into property insurance.
Homeowners in Pennsylvania’s metros are paying less for property insurance.
Out of the 50 largest metros, Philly ranks no. 31. In the City of Brotherly Love, the average homeowner’s monthly homeownership costs total $1,993.90, and only $124.13 of that is spent on property insurance, accounting for 6.2% of all costs.
Right up there with Philly, the Pittsburgh metro is tied for 31st. For the average homeowner in Pittsburgh, property insurance also accounts for 6.2% of their total monthly homeownership costs. However, the City of Bridges is notably more affordable in this regard. Total monthly homeownership costs here are $1,520.15, with only $93.89 going toward property insurance.
