Realtor.com recently named Pittsburgh as one of the most affordable metros where homebuyers can get the most bang for their buck.
As of November 2024, the median list price for a home in Pittsburgh was $244,000, and 69.6% of households could afford to buy a median-priced home, according to Realtor.com. Additionally, the median household income required to buy a median-priced home was only $58,697.
“The overall cost of living combined with affordable home prices has kept the Pittsburgh area consistently desirable for residential and first-time homebuyers,” notes Realtors® Association of Metropolitan Pittsburgh President-elect Michelle Senko. “Pittsburgh has also increasingly gained international acclaim for its affordability, attracting many out-of-state and foreign investors looking to establish their business, house operational headquarters or create investment portfolios, all supporting the regional appeal.”
In the past year, more prospective homebuyers have turned their gazes upon the City of Bridges. Realtor.com named Pittsburgh the fifth most popular market, and the city has shown itself to be an affordable location for Gen Z buyers and those looking for starter homes.
Analyses also show that Pittsburgh is more affordable for middle-class homebuyers, promising for new college graduates and has had a lower home price appreciation rate than both the nationwide and Pennsylvania average.
