New Cumberland Valley Neighborhood Preserves Nature, Plans for 1,000 Homes

A central Pennsylvania homebuilder has incorporated several housing trends into a new neighborhood, Grange.

Grange was transformed from a century-old dairy farm into a modern neighborhood featuring townhomes, single-family homes, first-floor living homes and estate homes, meeting needs for multigenerational living and various other lifestyles.

The neighborhood continues to preserve 45 acres of land to showcase the natural beauty of the former farm, and the family farmhouse and silo are being restored to serve as visual anchors and gathering places. Other gathering places for residents include The Grove, featuring century-old trees planted by the original Stover family; The Meadow, a four-acre gathering place with walking trails and wildflowers; and Stover Green, another place for neighbors, families and friends to connect.

“Seeing families move into homes here at Grange and begin to build their own stories on this historic land is incredibly rewarding,” said President of Charter Homes & Neighborhoods Rob Bowman in a press release.

In addition to preserved natural and historical sights, Grange offers residents other benefits, including easy walkability that integrates homes with retail and gathering places, nature-inspired walking trails and wildflower meadows.

The second phase of the development is set to begin this month, with a plan for more than 1,000 homes for the finished neighborhood, along with a “Crossroads” component featuring local restaurants, retail and other gathering places.

“Charter prides itself on providing homebuyers a wide variety of architectural options based on timeless design principles and always included features that enhance the value and enjoyment of your home over time,” Bowman told PAR.

The company has won various awards, including the Commonwealth Award for Best Neighborhood in the State, Best Neighborhood in the Nation and the National Housing Quality Award. The company has three other neighborhoods in central Pennsylvania.
