Luxury homeowners went big last year, focusing on health and well-being, comfort and security and finding joy. Here are some of the most unique luxury home trends from 2024, according to Inman.
1. Cold Atmospheric Plasma Air Filter
These high-tech air purifiers use electrically charged gas to create a “reactive oxygen species” that can break down pollutants and airborne pathogens like viruses, bacteria and allergens.
2. Contrast Therapy Tubs
Contrast therapy tubs allow users to alternate between hot and cold water exposure, which is supposed to help reduce inflammation and lactic acid buildup. It can also provide relief for chronic conditions like arthritis.
3. Hyperbaric Chambers
These chambers circulate air at two to three times the air pressure in a typical home, allowing the lungs to take in more oxygen. This is said to encourage healing and anti-aging.
4. Magnesium Swimming Pools
In a switch from saltwater pools, magnesium pools use minerals to sanitize the water and use less chlorine. These minerals are also said to help with skin ailments, reduce stress and improve sleep.
5. Expansive Underground Living Spaces
Basements aren’t just for home gyms and theaters anymore. Luxury homes now add more recreational areas, wine-tasting rooms, bedroom suites and more to their underground layouts.
6. Bigger Walk-In Closets
Walk-in closets got some upgrades. Trending add-on features included crystal chandeliers, revolving shoe racks, champagne bars, spray-tan booths, dry-cleaning storage, meditation areas and high-tech, thumbprint-protected jewelry cases.
7. Personal Fire Hydrants
Many luxury homes are located in California, an area at high risk for wildfires. Thus, luxury homeowners have turned to ensuring their safety by installing their own personal fire hydrants that allow them to draw water from a private water tank or municipal water (with permission).
8. “Costco Doors”
What’s that? A “Costco door” is a roughly 3-foot by 3-foot door that directly connects the garage to the pantry. The trend originates from many households with large families and expansive pantries. The door allows for quicker, easier, more direct pantry restocks.
9. Pooja Rooms
Many Hindu homeowners have elevated their luxury homes with custom pooja rooms, which are worship spaces that may include custom murals, high-end finishes and strategic layout placement so the room can face a certain direction.
10. Pet Washing Stations
Furry friends require luxury too. High-end pet washing stations have added features such as low-profile entryways, extended hoses, built-in kennels and more.
