5 Lighting Trends for 2026

Different lighting choices can elevate any room in a home. For 2026, here are five trends from HomeGnome

1. Sculptural Fixtures as Art

“Unique fixtures become focal points, making a space feel more personal and inviting,” HomeGnome shares, recommending utilizing a single statement chandelier or a unique wall sconce to achieve this trend.

When using lighting as a focal point, it’s best to let the fixture itself be the statement and keep the light it produces soft and ambient.

    2. Organic Shapes and Curves

HomeGnome notes that gentle curves and soft lines help create a welcoming and calming atmosphere. A rounded table lamp or a pendant light with a scalloped edge can do the trick here.

Shapes that mimic nature – like flowing water, tree branches and dunes – are especially relaxing for spaces like living rooms and bedrooms.

      3. Natural and Textured Materials

“Earthy stones and minerals are leading the charge, with travertine emerging as a signature material for 2026 because its porous quality diffuses light beautifully,” HomeGnome states. “But the trend extends to a wide range of natural materials that add depth and warmth.”

Choosing fixtures made of rattan, bamboo or wood is another way to bring natural elements indoors. Combining them with metal can create an artisanal look as well.

        4. Layered Lighting

HomeGnome reports that relying on a single overhead light is one of the biggest design mistakes. Multiple light sources in one room help create a warmer, more flexible and inviting atmosphere.

To achieve this, add floor lamps and table lamps, and consider installing dimmer switches for overhead lighting. One recommendation: layer lighting with at least three different light sources – ambient, task and accent.

          5. Smart and Wellness Focused Lighting

Wellness isn’t just trending for wall colors – 2026 is expected to see more well-being-focused lighting, too. Swapping regular lightbulbs for smart lightbulbs allows users to easily change color and intensity, which can create more comfortable and specific environments.

One of the biggest trends is “human-centric” lighting, which is functional lighting that adjusts to the space, time of day and purpose, supporting the body’s natural circadian rhythm. It has been reported that a shift from cool blue-white light in the morning to warm amber in the evening leads to better sleep and more daytime energy.

            What’s Out?

HomeGnome reports these old trends are on their way out:

            • Exposed Edison bulbs
            • Harsh industrial fixtures
            • Cool-toned lighting
            • Relying only on overhead lighting
            • Perfectly matched sets
            • Stark black and polished finishes
