Real Estate Sales and Broker License Exams Now Offered in Spanish

Pennsylvania is now offering real estate sales and broker license exams in Spanish, according to an announcement last week from the Department of State. Secretary of the Commonwealth Al Schmidt noted that this progress reflects the Shapiro administration’s commitment to removing barriers to professional licensure by maximizing accessibility and making Pennsylvania a more attractive place to work.

The Hispanic population in Pennsylvania has grown by nearly 46% since 2010, reaching 1.1 million residents in 2022. The Latino population has contributed to 50% of Pennsylvania’s population growth over the last two decades.

Pearson VUE partnered with a Philadelphia-based company to translate the exams and their accompanying study guides into the Spanish (modern) dialect. Pearson VUE currently administers the four real estate sales and real estate broker exams across the commonwealth.

“The Realtors® Association of York and Adams Counties is pleased to see the Pennsylvania State Real Estate Commission expand access by allowing candidates to take both the state and national licensing exams in Spanish,” says Shanna Terroso, executive officer of RAYAC.

“Each month, we welcome a number of English-as-a-second-language students into our pre-licensing classes, and this change is a significant step forward in supporting their success,” she adds. “Providing the exams, and also now the study guides, in their native language will lead to stronger comprehension, better educational outcomes and ultimately, a deeper understanding of real estate practice in Pennsylvania.”

The exams and accompanying study guides became available in Spanish on Nov. 1. Currently, Spanish exams are only administered in person at test centers, and online exams remain only available in English. The language an applicant chooses for the exams does not affect the fee.
