Summer may be nearing its end, but 66% of homeowners experience plumbing problems during the hottest time of the year, according to Hippo Insurance. Whether you’ve experienced summer plumbing problems or want to get ahead before next summer, here are some key takeaways.
Plumbing issues can range from a simple leak to a costly, extensive problem. Of the over 2,000 survey respondents, 29% said their summer water bills increased due to plumbing issues, and 31% said they faced disruptions to their daily routines.
Plumbing problems can be costly. The majority of respondents (60%) reported that the last time they had a plumbing issue, they paid over $200 to fix it.
For 27%, summer plumbing problems caused property damage as well, adding to repair expenses.
However, the survey found that 61% of respondents did prioritize preventative summer plumbing maintenance, including:
- Having a professional plumber inspect their system (31%)
- Visually inspecting pipes and fixtures themselves (30%)
- Regularly cleaning their drains and garbage disposals (28%)
Plumbing issues aren’t just limited to wintertime. Prioritizing maintenance all year round can help homeowners avoid costly repairs and further property damage.
