The best place to reside in the commonwealth is Camp Hill, a suburb located near Harrisburg, according to a recent report from HomeSnacks.
Camp Hill also nabbed the top spot for the 2019 list as well. Applauded for both low crime and low unemployment, Camp Hill has a population of just under 8,000, with the 19th-best median home value in the state at $212,900.
Bellefonte moved up eight spaces from 10th to second place for the 2020 edition, thanks to one of the highest education rates for adults. The median home value is $182,600, the 27th best in the state and the unemployment rate is 3.3%, the 16th best in the state for the city in Centre County.
“I love walking through the historic district in Bellefonte, taking in the Victorian architecture,” said Centre County Association of Realtors® President Dawnyelle Sweeley-Holsinger. “You can then take a stroll through Talleyrand Park, and you are only a matter of minutes until you get to State College, home of Penn State University. It has that small-town feel, with more than enough to do for all ages. If you want to live close to Penn State University but you don’t want to pay the high prices, check out how affordable Bellefonte is. I like to tell my clients that if they are willing to make the 10- to 20-minute commute, they can get a larger home for a smaller price.”
Sweeley-Holsinger added,” Bellefonte is showing signs of growing on the horizon including the revitalizing project of the Gamble Mill, the boutique hotel and the Axeman Brewery.”
Swarthmore also moved up on the list, placing third this year, a spot up from the 2019 list. With a population of high earners and low unemployment, this Delaware County city also boasts a low crime rate. The median home value, at $410,100, is the second best in the state.
Other cities in the top 10 include Conshohocken, Collegeville, Lititz, Fox Chapel, Franklin Park, Ridley Park and Wyomissing.
Homesnacks only looked at the 170 places in Pennsylvania that have a population of more than 5,000 people.
