Men and women show different desires when searching for their dream home.
According to Redfin’s survey, Factors That Influence Homebuying, women tend to have stronger preferences than their male peers.
Out of all the features studied, the only option men sought out more than their female counterparts is the inclusion of exterior home maintenance, which was 5.1 percent more important to men over women. Having a backyard patio or deck is 3.9 percent more important to women than men, while exterior style is 1.8 percent more important to women.
Interiorly, the number of bedrooms is 6.7 percent more important to women than men, while the number of bathrooms is 5.2 percent more important. Interior layout is a feature coveted 5 percent more times by women, while square footage is desired 5 percent more by females. The inclusion of appliance is 4.5 percent more important to women, while the home being ready to move-in is the closest that both parties came to matching importance interiorly, with women finding it more important than 3.8 percent of men.
Women seek to be closer to schools (by 6.6 percent), and centrally located (5.6 percent) more than men, while neighborhood safety is 4.8 percent more important to women. The proximity to neighbors is 3.8 percent more important to women than men, and neighborhood appearance is only 1.8 percent more important to women.
Finally, the cost of the home, showed that women find its price 4.6 percent more important, while the taxes and insurance costs are 4.9 percent more important. Lastly, the estimated resale value? Slightly more important to women, at 3.6 percent, compared to men.
