Staging Boosts Sales Prices and More, Says NAR Report

Staging a home for sale is an effective way to boost its sales price and reduce its time on the market, according to the National Association of Realtors® 2025 Profile of Home Staging report.

Twenty-nine percent of real estate agents reported that staging their sellers’ homes received a 1% to 10% increase in the dollar value offered, and 30% of seller agents observed a slight decrease in time on the market when homes were staged.

Additionally, 26% of agents said that home staging had an effect on most buyers’ view of the home, and 83% of homebuyers’ agents said staging made it easier for a buyer to envision the property as their future home.

“The typical homeseller resides in their home for 10 years before selling,” NAR Deputy Chief Economist and Vice President of Research Dr. Jessica Lautz said. “During that time, homeowners might overlook certain aspects that could be less appealing to potential buyers. By staging a home, agents who are Realtors® strategically highlight the best features, ensuring sellers receive the most competitive offers.”

Seller agents reported that the most commonly staged areas were:

  1. Living room (91%)
  2. Primary bedroom (83%)
  3. Dining room (69%)
  4. Kitchen (68%)

The least commonly staged were the guest bedroom and children’s bedroom (both 22%).

Additionally, the most common home improvement recommendations from agents for sellers were:

  1. Decluttering (91%)
  2. Cleaning the entire home (88%)
  3. Improving curb appeal (77%)
