Spooky ‘Silence of the Lambs’ Home on Market in Pennsylvania
8 Circle Drive in Perryopolis looks like your average Victorian-style home.
Well, maybe it’s a little dated. But horror movie fans should instantly recognize it as the house of Jame Gumb, also known as Buffalo Bill, from the wildly popular movie The Silence of the Lambs, which was released in 1991.
The house just hit the market for the second time since the film’s release. Located outside of Pittsburgh and listed for $298,500, the 2,334-square-foot home has four bedrooms and one bathroom. A Realtor® with Berkshire Hathaway The Preferred Realty – Peters Township, Eileen Allan is the listing agent and said she was quite surprised at the national media attention the listing has attracted. Outlets like People, Vulture and Yahoo are just a few of the places that have published content on the home.
“We list a lot of houses, but we have never had had anything like this happen,” said Allan, who works alongside her sister Shannon Assad. “We knew there was a big following of fans for this movie, so we thought we may seem some exposure, but not like this.”
Due to COVID-19, Allan has not held any open houses, but instead posted a 3-D tour so curious buyers – and fans – can take a peek into the infamous home.
“We’ve had several showings for serious buyers and two offers,” said Allan. “Hopefully, it will be under contract soon.”
Allan said the current owner bought the house about five years ago from the people who had owned the home during the film’s shooting. Allan said the history of the home intrigued the owner, who works for the FBI, just like The Silence of the Lambs’ Clarice Starling.
“It has been a cool house to market and see the response,” said Allan.
“It’s kind of funny, I have to admit I haven’t even seen the movie because I hate scary movies,” she added.
