Pa. Cities Rank in List of Metros With Fastest Selling Homes

Homes in Pennsylvania are selling quickly. In fact, seven Pennsylvania areas made Stacker’s list of 50 metros where homes are selling the fastest based on Redfin data. And four of those cities were ranked in the top 10. The list highlights York, Reading, Lancaster, Harrisburg, Allentown, Scranton and Montgomery County as seeing quick home sales.

Ranked No. 1 was York, which has the quickest-selling home market, according to Slacker. Redfin reports listings in York spend a median of six days on the market.

Reid Weinbrom, president of the Realtors® Association of York and Adams Counties, said, “Any Realtor® who is selling homes in York knows time is of the essence with homes continuing to move at a swift pace. Multiple offers and going under contract in a few days have become our normal market. The scarcity of available homes is a significant factor driving our quick home sales. There is a strong demand to live in York. We have a prime location with proximity to major metropolitan areas. This accessibility appeals to buyers who seek a strong quality of life combining the benefits of suburban living with convenient access to employment opportunities, amenities and cultural attractions. ”

Reading comes in at No. 2, with homes also spending a median of six days on the market.

“Homes are selling quickly in Reading, and in Berks County, because people know it’s a great place to live,” noted Jason Burkholder, president of the Reading-Berks County Association of Realtors®. “We’ve got the perfect blend of opportunity, where a community on the rise still offers a chance for great homes at affordable prices and plenty of appreciation in the future as we grow.  The Reading area is a community full of diversity, with plenty of events and things to do, while being just a short drive away from all the beauty of Berks County’s natural areas.”

Coming in third place is Lancaster. Redfin reports a median of six days on the market here as well. “It does not surprise me that Lancaster has been named one of the fastest-selling real estate markets,” said Joe Younger, president of the Lancaster County Association of Realtors®. “Buyer demand has always been strong here partly due to our mix of commerce base and location desirability. We have a large industry located in the heart of our community with excellent transportation routes connecting us to major metropolitan cities such as Philadelphia and Baltimore.” Younger added, “Lancaster has so much to offer regardless of your lifestyle. Gorgeous sprawling suburbs and picturesque rural areas are just a stone’s throw from our bustling historical downtown. We really do have something for everyone. With a strong sense of community, exceptional career opportunities, great schools, incredible dining, shopping, art galleries, and nightlife, we have it all in Lancaster County.”

Harrisburg was ranked No. 9, with a median of seven days on the market.

Also ranked in the top 10: Evansville, Indiana.; Seattle, Washington; Cincinnati, Ohio; Grand Rapids, Michigan and Wichita, Kansas.

Allentown ranked No. 23, with homes sitting a median of 13 days on the market; No. 32 was Scranton, with homes spending a median of 15 days on the market and No. 36 was Montgomery County, where homes were on the market for a median of 17 days.
