Even in this busy year as your PAR president, I make sure that I don’t miss elections.
Tuesday, Nov. 8 has been in my calendar as a “must” day for months now. Voting is very important to me and I hope it is also that important to you, too. But if you are planning to vote on that day (or by mail beforehand), you must be registered to vote by this Monday, Oct. 24.
To be eligible to register to vote, Pennsylvanian residents must be:
- A citizen of the U.S. for at least one month before the election.
- A resident of Pennsylvania and the election district (municipality or precinct) in which the individual desires to register and vote for at least 30 days before the election.
- At least 18 years of age on or before the date of the election.
Registering to vote is quite simple and can be done in a matter of minutes. There are three ways to register to vote, including online, by mail and in-person. If you are not sure if you are registered to vote, you can check your status at the Department of State Voting and Election Information site. For those interested in voting by mail, the deadline to apply is Nov. 1. If you need to update your registration, whether you have moved or wish to change political parties, it’s easy to do online.
Unless you have been living under a rock or don’t own a television, you probably already know that we will be heading to the polls to select the next U.S. senator from Pennsylvania, as well as the governor of the commonwealth. What you may not know is that there are also races for the Pennsylvania General Assembly (both the House and the Senate) that are critical. It is pivotal for Realtors® to vote and elect candidates that preserve private property rights and make it possible for us to serve our customers and clients the best ways we can. That is why we have an online tool to help you know just who we support.
