Bathroom Remodel Costs Up $10,000 Over the Past 10 Years
While bathroom remodeling has a 60% to 70% return on investment, the cost of the project continues to grow.
According to a Today’s Homeowner study, in Pennsylvania, the 2022 bathroom remodel cost is $31,061, with a 47.9% ROI, compared to a 2012 bathroom remodel cost, which was $18,501 and offered a 59.3% ROI. That represents a $12,560 decade increase, more than the national average, while the ROI dropped 11.4%. Pennsylvania had the ninth-highest cost when remodeling a bathroom and the ninth-highest price jump over the last decade.
What is the highest cost? A high-end full bathroom remodel can cost anywhere from $20,000 to $100,000, while a partial one can run $10,000 to $50,000. A master bath full remodel can cost between $10,000 to $40,000, and a partial one usually costs between $8,000 to $20,000. A wet remodel is the third priciest, with a full remodel costing between $10,000 to $25,000 and a partial costing between $6,250 and $15,000.
For the lesser expensive options, not surprisingly, the smaller bathrooms came out on top. Both a half-bath or powder room full renovation costs $1,500 and $4,000, while partial of either costs $1,200 and $1,800. A three-quarters bath full renovation will cost about $2,500 and $6,000 and a partial will cost $2,000 and $2,700.
The biggest cost contributor for the renovation is plumbing, with an average cost of $7,000 followed by a bathtub at $5,000 and a shower at $4,130. Cabinets can also be a pricey fixture, costing about $1,800 on average and a vanity runs about $1,600 on average.
Nearly half of home renovations in 2021 were bathrooms, and a bathroom remodel can increase a home’s value by about 3%.
Is it worth it? Ultimately, 93% of homeowners who had a home renovation said they had a better quality of life.
