7 Home Design Trends for 2026

What home design trends are in store for 2026? Here are seven that are predicted by Zillow and Martha Stewart (and four that may be on their way out).

1. Personalized Touches

Zillow predicts homeowners will embrace personalized home features, as listings on their site are increasingly mentioning “artisan craftsmanship” (up 21%), “vintage accents” (up 17%) and “whimsy” (up 15%).

Martha Stewart predicts playful tiles will trend this year, as searches for tile contractors on Yelp have surged 351%. These tiles are a creative way to add a touch of décor and show a hint of personal taste.

2. Gallery Walls

Another specific way that homes are becoming more personal is through gallery walls. A collection of framed photos, prints, art and other pieces can offer a touch of personality and reflect style preferences.

Yelp reports that searches for “custom framing near me” are up 329%, and “specialized framing services” is up 63%, per Martha Stewart.

3. Color Drenching

Color drenching – that is, painting walls, ceilings and trim in the same hue – has been popular for a few years now. Zillow notes that mentions of the term are up 149% year over year, highlighting homebuyers’ desires for statement-making rooms.

4. Wellness Rooms

If color drenching the walls in this year’s wellness-focused colors of the year isn’t enough, there are plenty more trends that are relaxing and restorative.

Zillow notes that homes with mentions of “reading nooks” are up 48%, and “spa-inspired bathrooms” were mentioned 22% more often.

In the same vein, Martha Stewart agrees that wellness will continue to play a role this year. Yelp searches for sauna installations, cold plunge tubs, yoga/Pilates rooms and sound bath areas are on the rise, as are searches for home gym installations, used fitness equipment and gym equipment stores.

5. At-Home Sports

Enjoying at-home sports activities is another increasingly popular way to unwind, whether that’s through golf simulators, pickleball courts or batting cages – the latter of which are up 18% in mentions, according to Zillow data.

This is a bit of a change from traditional rec rooms, which featured more passive activities like pool tables, pinball machines and entertainment centers.

6. Vintage-Inspired Bathrooms

Perhaps a bit more of a niche pull, Martha Stewart says that Yelp forecasts vintage-inspired bathrooms to step into the spotlight this year, putting less of a focus on function and more of a focus on design and character.

This trend may make an appearance through pedestal sinks, brass fixtures, colorful tile and clawfoot bathtubs.

7. Resilient Homes

Zillow reports that more homeowners are looking for homes with features that are resilient to natural disasters, such as flood protection (up 64%), elevated (up 50%), defensible space landscaping (referring to a wildfire safety practice, up 36%) and fire protection (up 28%).

Notably, 86% of homebuyers said it’s very important that a home be “climate-proof,” showing just how many prioritize these features.

What trends are on their way out?

According to Zillow, trends that may be staying in 2025 include:

  • Juice stations (mentions down by 19%)
  • Marble sinks (down 15%)
  • Man cave (down 10%)
  • Barn doors (down 6%)
