From home age to floor plan to preferred architectural style, here’s what homebuyers are looking for right now, revealed by a survey from 2-10 Home Buyers Warranty.
1. Recent and New Builds
Of the homebuyers surveyed, 44% said they preferred a recent build – a home built in the 1990s through 2020. Next in line, 30% said they preferred a new build – a home built in 2021 or later.
In comparison, only 18% preferred old homes (1960-1990s) and 8% preferred historic homes built before the 1960s.
2. Open Floorplans
Open floor plans were favored more by homebuyers, but not significantly. Fifty-eight percent said they preferred open plans, as opposed to 42% who chose closed ones.
3. Modern Style
The most preferred architectural styles were modern (38%), farmhouse (29%) and colonial (26%).
4. Nice Kitchens
Forty-one percent agreed that the kitchen was the most important room, followed by the living/family room (38%) and bedroom (12%).
5. Cleanliness
Homebuyers said the biggest dealbreaker when viewing a home was dirt (44%).
6. Suitable Neighborhoods
When evaluating a home, buyers said the biggest dealmaker was the right neighborhood (71%), followed by the view (38%) and landscaping/trees (29%).
7. Log Cabins
The survey revealed that the most popular home style in Pennsylvania is the log cabin, which is also favorable in Montana, Arkansas and Alaska.
