Getting more out of Twitter as a Realtor®

By Kelly Leighton | Sept. 3, 2015 | 3 min. read

So, you downloaded Twitter, created a profile, and now what?

When used correctly, Twitter gives you the opportunity to reach new clients and reconnect with old ones. Getting more followers increases your reach, and can be hugely beneficial for your real estate business. Violeta-Loredana Pascal of Realty Biz News offers five tips for making your Twitter profile worthwhile.

Create a relevant profile. Use a professional photo as your avatar, and create a bio that represents you: short, but relevant. You can include personal details (“wife, mother of a beautiful girl” or “husband, father of two boys”), along with your professional ones (“real estate agent in the Philadelphia area,” etc.). Add contact data such as your phone number and email, as well as website/blog addresses and links to other social media profiles, if you have.

Publish great content. Interesting content will always be a key to more followers. Publish links (along with a few words – your opinion or the news’ title – to important articles, studies, info).

Retweet relevant content, and add personal content. Personal tweets, like thoughts, an interesting discovery, a place you visit, something you like (a movie, for instance), can go a long way in making you seem more approachable.

Additionally, Twitter allows you to include photos in your tweets. Adding a relevant photo can help get more retweets and followers, but it’s unnecessary to accompany every tweet with a photo.

Have a constant presence. Once you decide to be on Twitter, try to have a constant presence. Enter daily, multiple times and post tweets. You can use various apps or sites. such as Hootsuite to schedule your tweets.

Interact with others/Start discussions. You should follow the people who follow you, unless it’s an obvious spam account. To increase discussion, try to find relevant chats, use hashtags in your posts and reply to discussions you see. Reply to anyone asking you something (if not a hater/spammer) and start your own discussions. You can even address questions to important people (using the @ attribute and their username).

Promote your Twitter account. Let people know you have this account and you use it. Include it on your email signature and even on your business card. Link it on your blog/company’s website, include it in your profiles in other social media networks. Don’t do it all once you open your account. Follow your friends, follow some people recommended by Twitter. Post content first, so that people can know if they want to follow you or not. Look for other Twitter tips articles online, learn, use those recommendations. Never, never buy followers. Be relevant, provide quality content and people will follow you.
