Pittsburgh Named Third Best City for Remote Workers

What makes a city great for remote employees?

As more organizations have moved toward fully remote workplaces, employees have been given a flexibility that was previously not on the table, allowing them to relocate anywhere. For those working remotely, some of the top factors that may influence their relocation decisions include coworking spots, WiFi and cost of living.

According to CoworkingCafe, Pittsburgh is the third best city in the country for remote work. What would lead remote workers to Pittsburgh? Firstly, the internet speed was third overall, allowing for speedy connections. Additionally, the area offers a wealth of entertainment opportunities, averaging 677 per 100,000 residents. Proximity to four airports in a 70-mile radius allows residents to travel easily. Pittsburgh offers 7.53 coworking spaces per 100,000 residents and has a high walkability score among other metros.

“Pittsburgh has a bright future with the growing presences of top employers in tech, advanced manufacturing and robotics,” said Patrick McGregor, a manager at Coworking Cafe. “While remote work is associated with a more nomadic lifestyle, it’s important to note that many remote workers are stationary and are simply working from home. And as many companies consider hybrid work schedules as more long-term working solutions, being close to headquarters or a regional office will be a benefit to employees and job seekers. Pittsburgh’s growing economy and low unemployment rate make it an attractive option for job seekers looking to work remotely.”

The cost of living in Pittsburgh is one of the best of cities in not just the U.S., but the world. According to the Urban Reform Institute and the Frontier Centre for Public Policy’s Demographics International Housing Affordability, 2022 Edition, Pittsburgh was the most affordable market in the world.

Only Atlanta and St. Louis landed above Pittsburgh in the study.
