How did you get started in the real estate business?
I got started in real estate because I was a stay-at-home mom trying to get back into the workforce. When you’re out of the workforce for about five years as I was, nobody wants to hire you. So, I just looked for something else that I could do and real estate seemed to be the thing for me.
What advice would you give yourself if you could go back to the start of your career?
If I could go back, the advice that I would give myself is to take every single transaction that I go through as a learning experience and to learn as much as I could.
Why do you love being a Realtor®?
I love being a Realtor® because of the people I meet. You never meet the same person twice. It’s always a new experience with every interaction.
What do you attribute your success in the field to?
I attribute my success to my education. I learn as much as I can, in classes, talking to more experienced Realtors® and meeting people on a daily basis.
What’s the biggest challenge you face being a Realtor®?
The biggest challenge can be buyers. Sometimes they’re not completely honest with you. I’m not sure why that is, but I think sometimes they’re nervous about the whole idea of buying a home. They feel that they can do it and don’t want to tell you that they can’t or that they may have some roadblock, but they don’t realize that I can help. So, I have to constantly say, “I’m here to help you. Tell me how I can help you. Let me help you.”
What made you become more involved in your local, state or national associations?
I became more involved in my state and local associations because I was asked to volunteer. That was it. Once I got started, it just kind of trickled down from there. Once you realize you can do something else to help out, you make the time to do it and find it’s actually a lot of fun.
How has being involved helped your business?
Being involved in my state and local associations has helped my business because I’ve met many Realtors® from all over the state and that leads to what’s called referrals. Referrals can help when things start to slow down.
What’s a fun fact about yourself?
I sang in my church choir for over five years. It helped me overcome my stage fright; a little.
What do you do when you’re not selling real estate?
I read. If I’m not reading, I’m sleeping.
