Most popular home improvement projects

With each home improvement project we complete, it seems like it’s time for the next one.

Porch.com recently complied data to create a list of the most popular home improvement projects for each state across the country.

In Pennsylvania, HVAC services, which Porch.com described as “a heating, ventilation or air conditioning project, which may include new gas lines, electrical or mechanical work” nabbed the top spot. HVAC was moderately popular across the nation, showing up in the top three projects for several other states.

Despite the fact that it was not that popular nationwide, in Pennsylvania, door installation came in second. Finally, that pesky pest control rounded out the top three in our state. Pest control was also popular across the country, representing 10 percent of projects done.

Across the nation, residential construction was the most popular by a landslide, consisting of 29 percent of home improvement projects. Residential construction is defined as new home construction, additions and renovation projects, where a multitude of permits are filed.

For 12 percent of projects, homeowners went with roofs. Whether it was roofing replacement or roofing services, this project was well-represented across the country, coming in second overall.

“Considering how important a roof is to the structure and performance of the home, and considering how weather and seasonal events can negatively impact the roof, it’s no wonder that roofing projects showed up in the top three projects for 13 states,” said Anne Reagan of Porch.com

Lawn care joined pest control, with both representing 10 percent of projects across the nation, coming in third.
