Like many entrepreneurs, Nicole Nicolay was looking for a new and creative way to build lead generation in her business.

In 2005, she began her renowned “dance grams” in which she turns on the webcam in her office and dances to music. Eight years and 500 videos later, they have become her signature presentation style and her “most effective source of lead generation.”

Nicolay’s enthusiastic presentation style and ability to develop an engaging curriculum, has made her one of the most sought after speakers in the industry. She delivers keynotes and training programs to more than 100,000 agents nationwide.

She was a featured speaker at Real Estate Connect last month in New York City. Her keynote talk, “How Do We Make Real Estate Fun, Without Making it Frivolous?” began with a video of her dancing in Grand Central Station. She later joked of being escorted out by police. “I was escorted out of Grand Central for dancing. I got the video. That’s all that matters.”

She shared her tips for personality branding and how to make real estate fun.

Apply personality branding in your business

“We all know that the way in which we speak and behave can affect how we are perceived,” she said. “It can affect our business negativity or positively. People want to have a reason to relate to you. It shows that you are not the run-of-the-mill real estate agent or broker. It’s those personality traits that draw people in and want to work with you.”

Make big, passionate goals

“Incorporate a weekly big personal goal into what you’re doing business wise,” she said. “You may feel guilty when you focus on a passion because you’re not focused on your work or family. It’s hard to create that balance in life but incorporating that personal goal can really help.”

Don’t wait, just do it

“It’s never too late to be who you might have been. I learned that the hard way,” she said.  Last summer, she was involved in a car wreck that left her bedridden for two months. “I started to feel sorry for myself but not for very long. I wanted to do something big to snap myself out of this.” She began training for her first Ironman Triathlon in support of one of her favorite charities and hasn’t looked back.

She offered her final words of advice. “Don’t fight change. It takes more effort to worry about making change and trying something new like paperless transactions than actually getting it done.”

Nicole Nicolay is the co-founder and editor of MyTechOpinion, where she’s been blogging about real estate since 2005. She was named one of the 100 Most Influential Leaders in Real Estate in 2010, Top 10 Most Fearless Women Online and in Social Media for 2011, and 2012’s Top 30 Women Worldwide in Social Media.
