Realtors® urged to register to vote

Editor’s note: The deadline to register to vote in the Nov. 3, 2020 election is Monday, Oct. 19, 2020. To register to vote, please visit VotesPA.com.
Today is National Voter Registration Day.
The Commonwealth recently made it easier for you to register to vote by creating an online registration system. The VotesPA site, available in English or Spanish, also allows currently registered voters to make updates to their voter record, such as a change of name, address or party affiliation.
A high percentage of PAR members are already registered – about 73 percent. But that means there are still many who aren’t.
It’s important for Realtors® to exercise their right to vote. While this year isn’t a presidential or gubernatorial election, it’s no less important. In fact, many would argue that it’s even more important to the real estate industry. Why? Because many local taxes and ordinances have a direct impact on our businesses and the homeowners we work with.
In my region, we’ve seen a number of ordinances and proposals that could have adversely affected the real estate market. It’s one of the reasons that I feel so strongly about voting and being a supporter of the Realtors® Political Action Committee (RPAC). Through RPAC, PAR is able to support candidates who care about private property rights and the real estate industry. Based on candidate interviews, many local associations are supporting candidates in the upcoming general election for county commissioner as well as city, borough, and township offices.
By making sure the Realtor® voice is heard and helping to elect candidates who ensure that private property rights continue to be protected, we can make an impact at all levels of government.
The deadline to register or make updates prior to the municipal general election is October 5, 2015.
