Some older and disabled Pennsylvania homeowners and renters may see a bonus rebate in their banking accounts or receive a check by mail.
Gov. Told Wolf signed Act 54 of 2022 last month, which gives those who qualified for a rebate on rent or property taxes paid in 2021 a bonus rebate. The governor is using funds from the American Rescue Plan Act to help Pennsylvania residents in need, expecting to spend $140 million on these bonus rebates.
According to the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue, if you are eligible and have already filed an application for a rebate on property taxes or rent paid in 2021, you do not need to take additional action. The department will get you your rebate. For those that have not filed an application, it is available online or you can send it via mail. The deadline to apply is Dec. 31, 2022.
Bonus rebates will begin being distributed via direct deposit or a check this month. People can expect to receive 70% of the original rebate.
“I am proud that bonus rebates are starting to roll out to Pennsylvanians in need this week,” said Gov. Wolf in a statement. “I proposed these bonus rebates back in February to help low-income Pennsylvanians deal with inflation and higher costs. For older adults in particular – many of whom are on a fixed income – a bonus Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program rebate this year will be a game-changer. These bonus rebates will help older adults and Pennsylvanians with disabilities stay in their homes.”
