GQ Magazine recently named Philadelphia the 2018 City of the Year.
Thanks to the Eagles winning the Super Bowl, along with all the city has to offer, means the city nabbed top honors this year.
“Philadelphia is finally starting to get recognized on a national basis. We were always the little brother to New York City and Washington, DC. But now the neighborhoods, restaurants, sports scene are all growing. It’s evolved into a major class city,” said PAR’s First Vice President Bill Festa. “The secret is out, and it has been getting out. We’ve had very affordable housing for years. Still, compared to major north cities, we are affordable, but I think that will change in the coming years.”
In addition to affordable housing, Festa said Philadelphia also offers comparable amenities as other cities at a lower cost.
“I think we have the ability to provide the same services as the major cities without the crowds and the hype,” he said. “We’re flying under the radar and people are taking notice.”
“Philadelphia is a city of neighborhoods,” Festa added. “The neighborhoods are thriving, and every neighborhood has its own type of mentality, with the shops, streets, supermarkets and restaurants. Philly offers the coziness of small, but thriving, neighborhoods.”
