Pottsville Named the Most Affordable Metro in the U.S.

Most buyers are struggling these days to find a home they can afford on the market.

The national median listing price for a home was $380,000 last month, an increase of 8.6% year to year. However, in Pottsville, buyers may have a better chance at buying their new home. With a median home price of $109,900, Pottsville is the most affordable metro in the U.S., according to realtor.com®.

“Pottsville is a great place to live, as is all of Schuylkill County in general,” said Realtor® Erica Ramus. “Our affordable housing prices and proximity to so many large cities combine to make it a super bedroom community.”

Residents in the Pottsville area have easy access to many urban hubs, making it a great location for those looking to move to a more suburban area from a city.

“We are within a three-hour drive of one-third of the U.S. population east of the Mississippi. We are one hour from Allentown and Harrisburg, which attracts homeowners to the eastern and western parts of our area,” added Ramus. “We are less than a two-hour drive to Philadelphia and we are less than three hours to New York City and Baltimore. With both I-78 and I-81 crisscrossing the county, we have a strong distribution center presence, which brings good jobs to our workers. So we see buyers both coming here for affordable living and good-paying jobs. And we see out of county workers coming to buy here because they can have a higher paying job in the city, yet live in a rural area where their dollars buy much larger homes than they could buy in the cities.”
