Pennsylvania Real Estate License Renewal Due Saturday

By: Kim Shindle on in  |

Real estate license renewal and continuing education requirements for brokers and salespersons must be completed by this Saturday, Aug. 29. According to the State Real Estate Commission, about 80% of licensees have been renewed.

PAR has heard from some Realtors® that they are experiencing issues logging in and trying to reset their password. Unfortunately, PAR is unable to see the exact reason that licensees are unable to access their accounts since PALS is run by the Pennsylvania Department of State. Many issues have been tied to brokers having to renew both their personal and business ‘facility’ licenses. The Commission has published tips for brokers who are having trouble accessing one or both of those licenses.

To reset your PALS password, you need your User ID. You can verify your User ID by requesting it from PALS.

If your current email address isn’t linked to your User ID, you can reset your email address associated with your account on PALS.

If you are still unable to log in after these steps, you will need to open a support ticket with the PALS team.

Renewals must be completed online by Saturday, Aug 29. The bureau will not allow any extensions.

New Law Changes Criminal History Policy for Professional Licensure Boards

Act 53 clarifies that conviction of a crime does not automatically preclude someone from being issued a state professional or occupational license. The state licensing boards/commissions must first determine if the applicant’s particular criminal offense is directly related to the duties, functions and responsibilities of the license applied for, and then must conduct an individualized assessment of the applicant.

Trial Result Could Impact Pennsylvania Real Estate Activity

PAR has been tracking Ladd v. State Real Estate Commission since it was originally filed in 2018. Though the case had previously been dismissed by the Commonwealth Court, on May 19, 2020, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court issued a decision reviving the case and sending it back to proceed to trial. The final outcome of the case could impact the licensing requirement for those engaging in Pennsylvania real estate activity.

Please note that the registration code is need to renew the license. The registration code can be found on your wallet card that came with your license and it was emailed to you from the DOS in early spring when the renewal opened. If you cannot find either of those items where the code was provided you will need to email PALS but please keep in mind you are in the last few days of registration, they are receiving over 200 emails a day and they do not work on Saturday.
