Virginia Association of Realtors® issues safety warning

According to a recent safety warning release by the Virginia Association of Realtors®, female Realtors® should be on alert.

In the area, an aggressive man calls at night and requests to see properties right away. The release reports that the man asked one female agent to “show me anything you can this evening.” The agent declined.

Additionally, the man is very persistent and has called multiple female agents several times within a few hours, asking to be shown homes. Typically, the man requests to see properties at night.

The release says local law enforcement authorities have been contacted.

While not happening in Pennsylvania, it could, and this is an all-too-familiar warning to Realtors® that safety is not guaranteed, and Realtors® should always be extremely cautious when meeting clients.

“Today, it is easy for anyone to get information on us. As a Realtor®, it is crucial that your safety comes first and foremost, even above business. If you are meeting a potential client, ask them to come to your office first with identification. Never meet them for the first time at a property, especially at night,” said PAR’s First Vice President Kathy McQuilkin.

“When going to meet a client, always tell someone where you are going, who you are meeting and when you anticipate you will return,” advised McQuilkin. “Always be aware of your surroundings and potential danger. Never do anything that makes you feel uncomfortable.”
