I was honored to represent Realtors® last week in Washington, D.C., while PAR’s leadership made our annual legislative visits. PAR President-Elect Kathy McQuilkin and I had a rewarding time meeting with the 13 elected officials discussing issues that are vital to our industry and homeownership.
While in Washington, we met with: Sen. Pat Toomey and Congressmen Lou Barletta, Brendan Boyle, Ryan Costello, Charlie Dent, Mike Doyle, Mike Fitzpatrick, Mike Kelly, Pat Meehan, Tim Murphy, Keith Rothfus, Bill Shuster and Glenn Thompson.
Key NAR issues we discussed were the Flood Insurance Market Modernization Act, which encourages the development of private market options for flood insurance; the Innovation Act, which would protect our industry from frivolous lawsuits brought by patent trolls; mortgage debt cancellation relief, which is so important to homeowners facing short sales; and government-sponsored enterprises guarantee fees (G-fees), which thanks to Realtors®’ responses last year, were kept from funding transportation costs.
While meeting with these elected officials, I’m realizing how important it is for them to hear from us regarding real estate related issues.
That’s why NAR’s Realtor® Party Mobile alerts are the easiest and best way to stay informed about what’s happening at the federal level. You can sign up on the Realtor® Party website. It’s also incredibly simple to sign up for these alerts on your cell phone by opening a text message on your phone and sending REALTORS to 30644. Whenever NAR issues a call for action, you’ll get an immediate text message alert and you can quickly respond.
