Pennsylvania Realtor® Greg Rothman was formally sworn into office Tuesday as the new representative for the 87th Legislative District. Rothman, who won a special election for the seat earlier this month, was elected following the resignation of Rep. Glen Grell (R-Cumberland).

Rothman started his career as a real estate agent at RSR Realtors® in 1989 and, prior to his election, was the president and CEO of the company. He’s been active in his local association, the Greater Harrisburg Association of Realtors® (GHAR), as a past president and serving on the Legislative Committee and the Realtors® Political Action Committee (RPAC). He previously was appointed as a commissioner on the State Real Estate Commission.

Rothman said he appreciates the help he received from the local and state Realtor® organizations in his campaign. “I’ve helped raise funds for RPAC in the past and to be on the other side of the election process was new for me,” he said. “The Realtors®’ support was overwhelming; I think it’s one of the reasons I received 60 percent of the vote. Realtors® also worked the polls for me and I’m grateful for everyone’s help.”

GHAR President Bernie Campanella said, “The Greater Harrisburg Association of Realtors® congratulates Greg Rothman on his election to serve the 87th Legislative District. As a current member, past president of Greater Harrisburg and a Realtor® of the Year recipient, I’m confident Greg will continue his leadership in the House of Representatives. We’re honored to have Greg as one of our members!”

Rothman added, “I’m excited to bring my experiences as a business owner to the General Assembly. High taxes and out-of-control spending are hurting businesses across the Commonwealth. We must demonstrate fiscal responsibility while ensuring we support the core functions of government. That is what I intend to do as a State Representative.”

Rothman holds an undergraduate degree in political science from the University of Massachusetts/Amherst and a Master of Science degree in real estate from Johns Hopkins University. He served in the Marine Corps Reserve for nearly a decade, rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant before receiving an Honorable Discharge in 2001. Rothman served his local community as a trustee of Harrisburg University of Science and Technology and as a board member of the Boys and Girls Club of Harrisburg.
