Each social media platform is unique and they have their own personalities and etiquette. With product changes entering the web every week, knowing and remembering all the tricks to each platform can be a large task.

Active participation on your channels is key to engaging followers. Here are a few tips to improve web search results and grow engagement on your social media channels.

Facebook

With nearly 850 million active monthly users, Facebook is the largest social media platform making it a must for brands. Image size is especially important on Facebook, according to the Search Engine Journal (SEJ). The site recommends you make your images 403 x 403 for your wall, 851 x 315 for your cover photo, and 180 x 180 for your profile photo.

Promoted posts are an easy way to get more people to see your posts. Promoted posts appear higher in a news feed, so there’s a better chance your audience will see them. There are two ways to promote a post: from your personal account and from your Facebook Page.

Twitter

Twitter has grown significantly since its release more than four years ago and is now seen as a social media platform that cannot be ignored. Last year, there were 175 million tweets sent per day. But there’s more to Twitter than just the 140 character allowance.

Here are some additional recommendations from the SEJ: If you start a tweet with an ‘@’ symbol, your tweet will only be seen in the public streams of people that follow you and the person at the @ symbol. If you want more viewers, simply put a period in front of the @ symbol. All tweets that start with “.@” will be seen in public streams. Use hash tags wisely. Stick to one to two hash tags per tweet to avoid your tweets looking like spam.

YouTube

If you haven’t created a YouTube video channel for your listings and your marketing videos, it would be smart to make this a priority. Once you’ve create your YouTube channel, the next question is how to track your results. This was difficult until YouTube released its new analytics program. YouTube’s audience retention report allows you to track how well your videos hold the attention of your viewers and to compare your results with everyone else’s results. You can filter your results by topic, geography or date.

Instagram

Last year, the app had more daily users than Twitter. Many businesses have embraced Instagram as part of their marketing efforts. It has become the photo-sharing site of choice for a lot of Realtors®.

Hashtags are important on Instagram. Users can click the hash tag to see all photos that have been labeled with this specific hash tag. Use hash tags that others would be interested in. Instagram does not support live links in the description, however, leaving the URL in the description will direct people where they can find out more about your posting, whether it be a blog post or a link to your website.

These are just a few examples of ways to boost your presence on today’s most popular social media platforms. What are some of your favorite tips or tricks?
